Hello. I just purchased H3 ANW and am using the ww2 database. I am working on a project called Global Campaign that combines different games so the player can conduct land, air and sea operations. Currently I am using Silent Hunter 3, Blitkrieg-Burning Horizon, Flight Gear (flight training) and of course H3. I like the idea of a command center aboard a ship and would like to have H3 manage as much as possible.

I would build maps in each game so that (for example) a flak battery that exists in H3 also exist in SH3 and Blitzkrieg maps. An airfield that exists in BK would also be represented in H3, etc. Ideally I would like each game to communicate with each other in the form of text files. I would also design the campaigns so that a convoy that exists in H3 would also exist in SH3. That way the mission objectives would be similar.

To this end, I have the following questions:

Can Harpoon 3 ANW accept outside input? Perhaps in the form of "realtime" event messages. If the mission is to locate and destroy a convoy, I would like to use SH3 to locate the convoy and send a contact report to H3. Then the position of the convoy be reflected on H3 map screen?

Can outside events be reflected in H3? If a message is received that an enemy airfield has been captured, can this be reflected in H3?

I want use H3 for naval battles, of course.

I'd check with the developers of ANW at the matrix forums to get specific answers to these questions as they're best positioned to answer.

Harpoon ANW doesn't do WW2 well mostly due to very simple gun and visual models which were important in that era. There is also a critical problem with scope as in you can't really zoom in enough to really capture short range duels etc. If you do choose to do it contact the WW2 database authors to see if they can give you some insights to make things work as best as possible.

If you can though choose an actually WWII naval sim.

Warship Combat: Navies at War is big and has gotten great reviews.

or maybe even consider several Matrix WWII Titles.

Thanks for the reply. I will check with the db authors for their advice. I actually have WC-NAW and purchased H3 to expand possible scenarios. I like the ability to develop air defense networks and the idea of a CIC aboard a ship.
