As I indicated earlier - I am working on an "Axis of Evil" Battleset, with the US going after WMD in Syria, Iran and N. Korea. I have been able to find most of the published sites, and OOB for the various countries. NOW, putting it on paper and screen, I need to resolve my missions for both sides (I want it to be played from either side).

First Scenario - Syria
Planning to use CVN 75 Harry Truman Battle Group, including CG 56, DDG 57, DDG 75, DDG 79, DD 963 (2), FFG 53, SSN 720 and SSN 765. I really don't have a good feel for the aircraft necessary - other than what others have loaded on their carriers. Also, since I like blowing stuff up, there will be lots of missles to soften the Syrian forces immediately prior to launching my aircraft. I will have support from USAF forces in Turkey at Incirlik, with a motley mix of F-16, A-10, F-15 F-4G, F-111A, etc. These will be attacking multiple chemical, biological, nuclear installations (factories, storeage sites, and reactors), and missle facilities (Scuds, etc) - all heavily protected by SAM (SA-18, SA-6, SA-9, SA-13, and ZSU-23-4)....

Syrian Navy is marginal against the CVN force - ANY successful attack would be a good one, since it is comprzed of mostly OSA II and 2 Petya II. The Syrian Airforce has lots of planes including 50+ MiG-29 and 100+ MiG 21 and 100+ MiG 23... but not a lot to attack a carrier. I think this will mostly be a "defend the motherland" type posture....Syrian does have a lot of Scuds, and SSM that could be used to go after a neutral or other force - such as Israel or the base in Turkey - any suggestions?

What would reasonable victory conditions - 90% of WMD blown up? Syria preventing 90%? Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Scott

I've done something similar with a scenario under the testing section for Iran , filed as Gulf-WMD. Basically you do have a problem making both sides playable as it is going to be something of a mismatch.
I'd also reckon there is an issue with the sheer size of the scneario. OK the Syrian Navy isn't large, but once you load in the airbases, plot missions , add on the Sams and radar sites you are looking at a large scenario before you even add in an opponent. For that reason , persoanlly I'd be slightly wary of adding in too many USAF strikes until you know how fast the game runs.

I am pretty sure there is some good information held on where the SA-5 sites are at the least for Syria, I don't recall what we have on the radar locations.

The issue of TLAM's is another one also. In essence if the TLAM's are available for all ships in that Battle group , the game can well be over soon after their launch. You might want to limit them . As I understand it, the default loadout on them is generous as is.

It might be worth considering having two scenarios, one with say USAF/Coalition attacking from Incirclik, the other with the CVBG ?

As far as Victory conditions go, you could use the Target DB entry to make all the sites, then rename them appropriately. These should show in the attacking players screen as Target Missile silo etc. Make the VC's destroy 30 targets or something along those lines ? If not destroy so many facilities works.

Steve

I am running into a size problem - I think. While TLAM are not available to all ships, there are still quite a few of them. I figure if I can damage the airfields with TLAM to suppress aircraft activity it would help.

MY main problem is building the bases. As I build them, and then save - the game crashes. Very frustrating. I am having trouble figuring out why - I save after I add each unit - then sometimes it works and other times it crashes.

I like the idea of VC as destroyed units - set up say 30 or so to be destroyed (reactors, CW factories, warehouses, etc.). I have 7 sites, and they are a combination of Biological, Chemical sites, with one being chemical and nuclear. There are also several fixed SCUD sites.

The Syria AF is really only set-up for defense - so suitable VC would be to deny them being destroyed. The Syrain Navy is small and set up for coastal patrol - although the can take out a frigate if grouped appropriately.

There are quite a few SCUDS available so they can be tageted on the base in Turkey and Iraq - effectively taking them out of the picture...certainly enough to overcome a Patriot battery or two...

Now I just have to figure out how to properly build the sites/bases.....

Thanks - any other ideas?

It would be worth trying to find out how hardened the hangars on the bases are, and whether some sites are fortified, underground etc.
Basically making the bases as realistic as possible. You'll also need a considerable number of small hangars at each base, preferably at least 8 of the 4 X hangars. That way the airforce can't be wiped out easily in one strike.
