New Command scenario: Caribbean Clinch

June 5, 2014 · Posted in Command

This scenario assumes that the Soviet Union intervened on behalf of Egypt during the Suez Crisis, attacking British, French, and Israeli forces.

Although Eisenhower felt the joint Anglo-French-Israel attack on Egypt had been a terrible mistake, he could not ignore a Soviet attack against American allies.  Around the world, American forces were readied to attack Soviet forces in their areas of operation.

ATTN: Commanding Officer, USS Iowa

INTEL/SITREP

Fighting between NATO forces and the Soviet Union continues.  Several vessels and submarines have been lost on both sides.  Turkish, Israeli, and British airfields have been attacked by Soviet bombers, but as yet all attacks have used conventional rather than nuclear weapons.

ENEMY FORCES

A Soviet task force has been spotted in the southern Caribbean, heading east and attempting to escape into the Atlantic Ocean.  Several Soviet submarines are also believed to be operating in the Caribbean.  Earlier today, a submarine of unknown nationality was spotted about 60 miles south of Puerto Rico.  The contact was lost before Navy aircraft could gather further data or attack.

FRIENDLY FORCES

The following vessels and submarines are chopped to your command:

  • CAG 2 Canberra
  • DD 724 Laffey
  • DL 4 Willis A Lee
  • DD 932 John Paul Jones
  • SSR 572 Sailfish
  • SS 566 Trout

Available aircraft at Roosevelt Roads NAS are also chopped to your command.

MISSION

Locate, pursue, and destroy any and all Soviet vessels and submarines in your area of operation.

EXECUTION

Because of your distance from the Soviet Union and any Soviet bases on foreign soil, you already have command of the skies.  However, the Soviet warships are likely to have an impressive array of anti-aircraft guns, and you are advised to use caution if you attack from the air.

Special weapons release is NOT granted unless the Soviet Union uses them first.  Repeat.  Special weapons release is NOT granted unless the Soviet Union uses them first.

COMMAND AND SIGNAL

Command: Iowa

Signal: EMCON State C (Unrestricted Emissions)
